In 1972, a unique business was formed out of necessity...
Charles Salvaggio and his new wife Barbara expanded on a concept Charles had recognized while working on a Sears and Roebuck carpet installation crew. In 1972, shag carpet was all the rage and Charles realized that after the carpet was installed all of the interior doors would drag requiring them to be cut down to properly clear. Charles purchased a saw and built a straight edge to handle the task. The simple necessity evolved into a thriving business. Over the next 25 years, the business grew into a full service door and hardware installation company.
37 years later, Memphis Door & Hardware continues to evolve and grow and is still a family business. Tony Salvaggio, Charles and Barbara's oldest son owns and operates the company. As a young boy, Tony would frequently ride with his father on the service truck and at a young age was able to mortise and install an exterior door as taught by his father. Today, Memphis Door & Hardware is the oldest continuously operated family door installation company in the Memphis area. Services have expanded but the same attention to quality sales, service and installation have remained.
The Salvaggio family continues to expand in the construction industry. Charles and his two sons Tony and Jerome merged their efforts in 1999 to form The Salvaggio Group, a full service construction company with emphasis in residential and commercial construction. This diversity in the field of construction has allowed clients of Memphis Door & Hardware to benefit from the expansive abilities of The Salvaggio Group to handle a wide range of home improvement needs.
